So, as some of you guys might know, I have a past in reviewing iCarly episodes, and I will admit, that some of the jokes I used in there were adapted or downright stolen.
But today, what brings me here is something else.
You see, before iCarly, there were a few shows from the same creator, Dan Schneider, for example, Drake and Josh, and The Amanda Show.
In one episode of Zoey 101, titled Time Capsule, the main character, surprisingly named Zoey Brooks, records herself in a DVD saying something about her life at PCA, Pacific Coast Academy, and placed the DVD in a time capsule, as per the theme of the episode. But the boy who has a crush on her, Chase Matthews, whose name sounds like a command, wants to know what she said. Chase says he wouldn’t watch the DVD without Zoey’s permission, and Zoey says he could watch the DVD in 10 years.
This episode aired on September 18th, 2005.
Fast forward 10 years.
Chase is about to ask a very important question to a girl, though a ring in a clam. Sorry, a clam shell… There’s symbolism right here, I think.
Chase is about to ask Zoe… Alyssa to mary him. And he takes his sweet time asking her, enough time for his friend Michael to arrive and deliver the news, he opened the time capsule and got Zoey’s DVD.
Chase’s reaction is amazing, but not something I’d recommend doing if you want to keep your girlfriend/boyfriend/significant other/other descriptive words.
After the obligatory flashback, Chase tells Alyssa, she’s his everything, immediately followed by shouting for a DVD player.
“A DVD player! My kingdom for a DVD player!”
And there’s a guy with a VHS player. Because reasons.
He’s not thirsty, so he won’t order his fianceé-to-be. Although, at this rate, he won’t be having one soon…
He pulls out a picture of Zoey from his bag. Why on Earth would he have that?
Here’s Zoey’s speech:
“And now, I wanna tell you about one of the most special people I’ve ever met. His name is Chase Matthews, and he’s one of the funniest, coolest, nicest guys in the world. And sometimes, I kinda think he has a crush on me.”
Of course she knew! Everybody knew!
And this is what he does next, confesses to his girlfriend that he’s in love with his school sweetheart. Even now.
But Zoey goes on. “But, other times, I kinda think he just wants to be friends… All I know for sure is Chase is really special to me. And who knows, maybe he’s even my soulmate.”
Which causes this reaction:
The fact that Chase still uses that outdated cellphone is a sign he’s clinging on Zoey. People use Pear Phones now…
But Chase comes back to get the ring.
The ending says “To Be Continued”, hence the Part 1 on the title.
I will post more reviews of this tidbit, as it develops!
